A Domestic Energy Assessment evaluates a home’s energy efficiency and provides an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), which rates the property on its energy use and environmental impact.
Retrofit Assessments build on this by identifying specific improvements and upgrades needed to enhance the home’s energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and lower energy costs. (Please note: A Retrofit Assessment does not provide an EPC)
These assessments help you understand your property’s current energy performance and provide actionable recommendations for making your home more eco-friendly and cost-effective.

A Domestic Energy Assessment evaluates your homes energy efficiency. This assessment can be carried out for several reasons. The primary reason is to produce an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), which rates the property’s energy efficiency on a scale from A to G. An EPC is a legal requirement when a property is built, sold, or rented.
This assessment may also be carried out to help homeowners understand their energy consumption and identify areas where they can improve efficiency, reduce energy bills, and decrease their carbon footprint.
A Domestic Energy Assessment is carried out by one of our qualified professionals, who will visit the property or properties to evaluate them. Your assessor will want to collect information such as the age, type (i.e., flat or semi-detached) and dimensions of the property, as well as heating systems and insulation levels to help them best understand how the property is used.
Your Assessor will use the data they have collected to calculate the energy efficiency rating and environmental impact rating. At this point an Energy Performance Certificate is generated, outlining your property’s current ratings, potential ratings if improvements are made, and a list of recommended measures to enhance energy efficiency.
Prior to delivery of your Assessment and your EPC, your Assessor will give you the opportunity to ask any questions you have about your report or EPC rating, and explain anything you’re unclear about. Please be aware your EPC is valid for 10 years or until a newer EPC is produced for the same property, no matter how many times the property is sold or rented out during that time – This will also be explained again at the time your EPC is delivered.
If you need an EPC or Domestic Energy Assessment, we can help.
Retrofitting is the process of making improvements to your home, so it becomes more energy efficient with lower emissions. A Retrofit Assessment is the first step of this process.
Currently homes use 35% of the UK’s energy and emit 20% of our carbon dioxide emissions. By improving the energy efficiency of your home, you’re not only helping the environment, but also making your home more comfortable to live in and more cost-effective to run.
A Retrofit Assessor will visit your property and carry out a full property survey, this will tell them everything they need to know about your existing energy usage and help them understand the building itself. Your Assessor will also discuss the type of improvements you want to carry out and what you’re looking to achieve.
Your Retrofit Assessor will create a report that will show you what you can do to reduce your energy bills and emissions and make your home more comfortable to live in. Your report will be bespoke to your home, detailing all the measures you could take to make your home as energy efficient as possible. It will also include recommendations on which measures are the most cost-effective, have the most impact and in which order to carry them out to best suit your lifestyle and budget.
Your Retrofit Assessor will agree the plan with you, answer any questions you may have, and clarify any details you’re unsure of. At this point your assessor can discuss any further works you would like support with and explain the process for gathering quotes.
